How to...

How to swaddle a Baby -video

I am pretty sure this is well-known to all your seasoned parents… but to those soon-to-be parents who pretty much are clueless about this topic, here is a video that might come in handy…

A friend of mine from high school, Jason, sent me this link.

He and his wife just had a little boy in September… Ashton.

From the looks of this video, this baby does not necessarily like being swaddled… apparently my nephew hated it too!

I have gotten word from many people that there are special blankets that are basically “pre-swaddling” so hopefully we will get some of those to help us out!

Otherwise we may end up cutting the circulation making him uncomfortable!

We have already tried swaddling once and were sorta successful, but it was on a plush Mickey Mouse. Sorcerer Mickey to be exact, but not like that makes a difference!

I also found a link “how to tie a bow tie” online and that did not work out so well, but there are less steps in the swaddling process..

Again, Mauldin will probably come out thinkin'...

"Awh man! I'm the one who got the parents who can't swaddle..."

Well, lil' dude, we are gonna try, we are gonna try :)

Wish us luck!

Evelyn loved to be swaddled. We used the sleep sacks that were to help swaddle but they were useless! We ended up throwing out the part that holds their arms in place and used the sleep sack without. The nurses at the hospital are pros and they will give you lessons, even if you have to ask them to show you several times like we did! ;)

I'd like to see your swaddling technique sometime!

Maybe they will go over that in the birthing class. If not, we will be picking the brains of all the nurses at the hospital.

You guys will be fine. We had all of the Halo Sleep Blankets and Swaddle Me things and we actually ended up using those ugly hospital blankets the most. You will soon find out that all this baby gear is a scam, but some of it will actually work for you and the rest will make you crazy. Ask the nurses for help, with everything, when you have Mauldin, in front of you, because there truly is no substitute for the real thing. Good Luck!

Good luck... some babies love it, others hate it and make a point of letting you know, quite loudly, about their preference. :)

If your little guy is anything like Lukas, he will figure out how to get out of event the best swaddle in no time flat. Good luck.

You're off to a good start! I didn't think about swaddling until the baby was born.

We had to swaddle The Hurricane until she was over six months old, because she was so active with her hands that she'd keep herself awake even from Day 1 by waving her arms around.

I wonder why she won't nap now ...

We always handled her with care when swaddling, but then when our nurse/cousin came over and she wrapped her up so tight and so fast and she fell asleep immediately, we saw the light.

I swore I was going to have to swaddle Caleb until he was 18 years old! It was well over 6 months when we stopped and that was because it got hot outside and the only large swaddle blanket we had was fleece. That gave us a good one - two hours more of sleep at a time. So nice! Eventually he did learn to sleep all night without being swaddled, but if you told me that when he was 3 months old, I wouldnt have believed you!

Both of our sons hated being swaddled. They always found a way out of it. I'd always blurt out, "who do you think you are, Harry Houdini?" Also, the blanket they give you at the hospital works best for some reason.

My kids loved it, so it's not always hard. You can practice on a purse full of stuff, if you're really bored one night!

Everett hated it. He always found a way to get his arm out. So I gave up pretty quickly. I am sure you can figure out how to get Mauldin to stay swaddled.

@Tami- Poor Caleb, going to college all wrapped up in a blankie!

@iVegas- maybe we will find their blanket stash and take more than one :)

@Anymommy- We will try that... ha thanks!

@Mandy- Well, if he hates it early on... we might just give in too.
